Land of Sparkling Lakes!
Most home buyers are concerned about two things: afford-ability and sustained value. As a local REALTOR, I can offer both of these things. The Baxter and Brainerd real estate market offers plenty of options in all price ranges , including entry-level town homes and starter single family homes. Lincoln and Little Falls home prices are within easy reach, and there are even some fixer-uppers for those who are interested in gaining instant equity.
Historically, home owners in just about any part of the state have done well over the long term. We all know that the real estate market has slowed down recently. However, almost all Minnesota home owners who have stayed in their homes for several years have made substantial gains in equity. Except for those who were involved in “flipping” schemes or who financed or refinanced with questionable mortgage products like option arms, the vast majority have done well from an investment standpoint. Today’s market conditions simply mean excellent opportunities for first time home buyers and folks who are hoping to upgrade.
It’s no secret that Minnesota lakeshore real estate and lake homes tend to hold their value. For Minnesotans, lakefront property is both a sound investment and a lifestyle dream-come-true. This is especially true for lakefront on large recreational lakes. Our Lincoln Lakes area claims some of the largest prime fishing waters around, even according to Minnesotan standards. Lake Alexander, in Cushing, covers an astounding 2600 acres. Shamineau, in Motley, contains about 2000 acres of water. Fishtrap Lake in Lincoln, MN, claims 1500 acres. Crookneck, in Motley, has 800 acres, which is not exactly a small lake either. Besides, it offers some of the best fishing in the area.
Fish From Your Back Yard
This brings us to another big point. There are more meaningful things in life than money and sensible financial decisions. Let’s not forget about three very important things: fish, friends, and family!
Of course you want to own a a lake home of your own. You are a Minnesotan, so it’s in your blood! You can’t help it. You want to go fishing every day. Your chances of catching the really big walleyes go way up if you live on Mille Lacs, the Whitefish Chain, Gull Lake or Long Lake in Brainerd, Pelican in Breezy Point, Ten Mile Lake in Aitkin, Round Lake or Alexander in Cushing, It’s not rocket science! The more time you have for fishing, the more fish you will catch! Simple! Stop dragging that boat around behind your truck, and park it in back of your home, on the dock, instead. Consider parking it in Crookneck in Motley, Lake Camile in Randal, or Lake Placid in Pillager.
What about friends and family? Sure, you may have moved up here for peace and quiet. But do you think you will be lonely? Are you kidding? If you own a home with waterfront, your relatives, in-laws, and friends will want to visit you all the time. You may even get sick of cooking for them. If they want more drinks and grub, send them to The Castaway on Lake Alexander or The Hitchin’ Rail in Lincoln. It’s a friendly community, so they might end up spending a lot of their time at some of the great local bars and restaurants.
